Below you will find answers to some Frequently Asked Questions:
Photography servicesWhat type of photography services do you offer?
My areas of specialty include weddings, senior/grad portraits, family portraits, and live music/concert photography. But even if your project doesn’t fall into one of these categories, I would love to work with you!
What kind of equipment do you use?
I shoot completely digital using modern Nikon DSLRs such as the D700, along with a variety of Nikon prime and zoom lenses to capture any moment. While shooting available-light can offer a wonderful natural look in many instances, I am also able to employ a variety of external lighting techniques (flashes and softening modifiers – umbrellas, softboxes, etc) to guarantee the best results in any situation.
What is your availability?
At this time I’m scheduling projects for evenings and weekends. My availability may vary so I encourage you to contact me with the date you have in mind and make arrangements if at all possible.
Photo processing
What types of photo processing do you perform?
Basic photo processing is included on all “keepers” (shots that were of sufficient quality to keep for printing or ordering). This basic processing includes adjustment of exposure, brightness/contrast, white balance & simple color correction. Simple artistic edits may be applied, such as black & white or color toning, at the discretion of the photographer. If you would like to request an adjustment of such an artistic edit (for example, adding or removing black & white from a certain photo), that is offered at no charge.
More advanced processing would include in-depth retouching of a subject (for example, removing frizzy hair, facial blemishes, etc), or in-depth custom artistic edits. Advanced photo processing & edits are charged on a per-photo basis, with bulk retouching discounts available. Contact me for details.
How long does photo processing take?
The time for photo processing greatly depends on the size of the event or project and the amount of photos taken. Portrait sessions should be available for proofing online the same week, larger events like weddings may take 2-3 weeks for all proofs to be posted. These photos will then be ready to order by either you or your friends & family, so the processing time helps ensure the best quality possible.
Client gallery access & proofing
How can I proof my photos?
Photo proofing is done entirely online in your Client Gallery. You can access the Client Gallery from the top menu at jlkphotos.com:
- Hover your mouse or click on Client Gallery
- Choose the appropriate category (for example, Weddings)
- Click on your name to access your proof gallery
From your Client Gallery you can view all photos from your event and place orders for prints.
Can I have my gallery password protected?
Yes! Typically I discuss this with the client during the planning process, though you may request a password of your choice to be added at any time before or after a gallery is posted. Remember that if you would like your friends and family to be able to view or order your photos you will need to share the password with them.
Print ordering
What types of photo finishes are offered?
All prints are ordered on LUSTRE finish by default, though there are other options available:
- Glossy - This is historically the most common print option. Glossy photos are sharp and vibrant, but highly reflective and prone to fingerprints that mar the photo quality.
- Matte - A popular alternative to glossy, matte prints are slightly textured and immune to the reflections & smudges that glossy prints are known for.
- Lustre - The default print option. Think of lustre prints as a combination of the advantages of both matte and glossy prints. Lustre prints have the color saturation and vibrancy normally associated with glossy photos, but with the texture and fingerprint-resistance of matte photos. They also avoid the strong reflective glare that plagues glossy prints.
All photos are printed on Kodak ENDURA professional photo paper. If you would like to specify a finish other than lustre for any or all of your photo order, please add a note to seller on the Paypal checkout page, or email with your specific request after you place the order.
What kind of print products do you offer?
Currently you can add the most common sizes to your cart, from wallet-size or 4×6″ all the way up to 20×30″ poster prints. If you would like to order something not listed, such as a canvas, mounted or framed print, special size, other type of printed merchandise or digital download, please contact me for arrangements.
Payments & Shipping
What payment forms do you accept?
Paypal or any major credit card. If you have a Paypal account you can enter your username and password when you checkout and pay normally using Paypal’s website. Credit card payments are also handled by Paypal so your credit card information is never seen or handled by JLK Photos.
How can I checkout if I don't have a PayPal account?
Even if you don’t have a Paypal account, you can pay using your credit card using Paypal as a guest. When you go to checkout, Paypal will ask for your username and password. Click the option that says “Don’t have a Paypal account?” and you will be able to enter your credit card and billing details.
What shipping service do you use?
All orders are shipped UPS Ground with a flat-rate cost of $6.
When can I expect to receive my order?
After you complete your checkout, I will select the photos you ordered, perform a final review & quality check, and submit them to my print agency. Expect to receive your order within 5-7 business days.
